Editorial Policy

How our content is researched, reviewed, corrected, and kept current, and how we decide which external resources to include.

Our approach

Our editorial standard is usefulness over volume. We publish content that helps someone take a concrete next step — finding a provider, understanding a treatment option, applying for coverage, or reaching crisis support — rather than content written only to attract search traffic.

We do not minimize serious symptoms, and we do not suggest that conditions can always be resolved through positive thinking, lifestyle changes, or willpower. We do not promote any single treatment philosophy as correct for everyone.

How articles are researched

Articles are written from authoritative sources, including the National Institute of Mental Health, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, professional association guidance, and peer-reviewed literature where a specific clinical claim is made. We link to those sources in the article body.

We use person-centered language. We describe people as "a person experiencing depression" or "an individual living with bipolar disorder" rather than labeling someone by a diagnosis.

How medical information is reviewed

Content that discusses psychiatric medication, suicide prevention, crisis response, diagnosis, or other clinically sensitive topics is queued for review by a qualified clinical professional before publication. When a review has been completed, the article displays the reviewer's name and credentials and a review date.

We do not fabricate author qualifications, clinical reviewers, statistics, citations, testimonials, or research findings. If a claim cannot be supported, it is removed.

How external resources are selected

Preference is given to:

  • Government agencies and public health programs.
  • Established national nonprofit organizations with published service information.
  • Professional associations and academic institutions.
  • Official treatment locators and directories.

Each listing records the organization's official website, the services it provides, its audience, geographic coverage, cost information where verified, eligibility requirements where applicable, and the date the listing was last reviewed. We link to the most specific relevant page rather than a general homepage when one exists.

We do not list organizations that make unverifiable treatment claims, promise cures, or discourage people from seeking professional evaluation.

How listings are verified

Listings begin in an "awaiting verification" state. A listing is marked verified only after our editorial team has confirmed that the organization's website is live and that the service description matches the organization's own published information. Verified listings display the date of the most recent review.

Listings can be flagged for review at any time, and we review flagged listings on a rolling basis. Listings that are no longer accurate are corrected or removed.

How corrections are handled

Anyone can report an error using our contact form. Corrections are reviewed by the editorial team, and significant changes are reflected in the listing's verification date. If a correction changes the meaning of an article, we note the update at the bottom of the article.

Sponsorships and commercial relationships

If this website earns revenue through sponsorships, advertising, affiliate relationships, or paid listings, we will disclose those arrangements clearly and in plain language. Paid placements must not be presented as independent clinical endorsements, and sponsored content will be labeled as such.

How we keep content current

Resource listings are reviewed on a rolling schedule, prioritized by how often they are viewed and how likely the information is to change — crisis lines, eligibility rules, and costs change more often than organizational descriptions. Articles are reviewed at least annually, and sooner if guidance from a major public health authority changes.

Artificial intelligence

We may use software tools to assist with drafting, organization, and proofreading. All published content is reviewed by a person, and clinically sensitive content goes through professional review before publication. We do not publish automated content without human review.
